About Annie

Ever since I was a child, I've always been fascinated by visual arts: I loved seeing life flow out of simple lines and shapes, and images appearing out of silhouettes. I mostly drew comics and portraits until I've discovered photography in my late Cegep days (around 2005). What got me started back then was an introductory course at my college, which dealt with 35 mm black and white film.

Today, I work mostly with a digital SLR, and I'm still constantly amazed by all the possibilities the world of photography can offer. In my opinion, there are never two moments that can be exactly the same, so no two pictures can be exactly the same. Each and every photograph is unique.

Although I enjoy taking photos of different subjects and settings, I admit that no other subject can rival the splendor of people. Human behaviour and the personalities that shine through each person can be so fascinating to observe. I especially love shooting with actors, they are fun to work with and definitely do not lack personality!

One of my wishes is to one day be able to recreate a traditional darkroom, where pictures are developed the old-fashioned way. Though they haven't completely seen their end yet, I feel that traditional labs are slowly becoming obsolete to the industry in general.

Other forms of art that I highly enjoy, other than photography, are performance arts. I strongly believe that the two are closely related. Having taken acting and guitar lessons, having occasionally taken part in plays, short films and photoshoots, I think that having some experience on both sides of the camera really helps relate to the process.

I am only at the very beginning of my journey, but hope to be continuing down this road for a very long time. Eventually I would want to travel the world and capture the faces of different cultures.
